Collection: Kathleen Beard
These pieces were created by Kathleen Beard in her studio in the Southern Highlands of NSW in the early 1940s, using local wild clay from the rich, iron-red earth of the region.
Her glazes represent the Australiana ceramic style of that period, which integrated the colours and motifs of the Australian bush. Layered green and brown drip glazes which ran down the rim of the pottery during firing, were used to create the distinctive effect.
Beard’s pieces were often adorned with gum nuts, gum leaves and flannel flowers.
