A local of Coogee for some 30 years, I have always had a love of art to express myself – initially working in the media of painting and printmaking that lead to two solo exhibitions at Gallery East in Clovelly. However, it was my discovery of working with clay that opened up a whole new world of expression.
All my pieces are totally original, either handmade from a slab or formed on a wheel. My aim is to make usable ceramics, as I believe that has always been the case throughout history. I want my pieces to be decorative but also practical. My tones range from what I call “bush colours” to bright pops of pattern. A platter may appear to be a curled up leaf found on the bush floor. A spotted pourer with sunshine on the inside is there to make you smile. A vase with leaves winding down and around – are there gumnuts there too?
I use white earthenware clay and all paints and glazes are totally foodsafe.
