Greybox Design

David Suckling is the principal of Greybox Design.

David began making copper vessels after years of sculpting and a successful ceramics practice.

The copper acts as a canvas for David's experiments in alchemy, which can be uncontrollable and unpredictable. The results are exciting, individually handcrafted artworks. The vessels have a history as off-cuts from plumbing used in skyscrapers, often carrying evidence of their past. Each patina builds upon these origins using various techniques to create colours and textures. This is then sealed and preserved with a layer of lacquer. Each object is unique and can be combined with others to form a still life, or used as a functional vessel. In the past David supported his practice by working in the salvage business and as a bush regenerator. The move from the lush coastal land of Berry NSW to the dramatic dry landscape of Wamboin / Lake George has had a powerful effect on his work and also provided access to the discarded industrial material of Canberra
